John F Hunt Remediation, along with our client DS Smith and their professional advisor Ecologia, won an award at the recent 2017 Brownfield Briefing Award ceremony for our input into the Silverton Mill project. The award category was ‘Best Biodiversity Enhancement’ and recognises our industry leading approach to the delivery of legacy sites.

In addition to the complex remediation works undertaken on the former paper mill site, the works were designed to protect and enhance the local ecosystem. The transformation of a large culverted section of the River Culm into a diverse river corridor provided improved flood defences, and a re-wilding of what was once a harsh industrial landscape was credited with the award.

This was the first Brownfield Award John F Hunt Remediation has received, and reflects our growing position within the UK remediation sector.

The award reinforces both the strategy for, and the execution of the works where both undertaken to an exemplary standard by the team. This has been recognised and rewarded by the National Trust and the reviewing panel at the Brownfield Awards 2017.
