Location & Overview

The 20 acre site had previously been used for commercial offices and light industrial processes. Our scope of works was asbestos removal, demolition and site clearance to accommodate a new distribution facility, for which John F Hunt produced full RDS surveys of the roof area.

Work, Challenges & Solutions

We managed the asbestos removal process whilst working alongside the demolition team on site, this allowed us to sequence the removal works and maintain the programme.
As well as the identified asbestos, we managed and removed a considerable amount of unidentified asbestos within the existing contract programme.
The clients timeline for the demolition was very optimistic from the out-set and we had to work on several buildings simultaneously. To achieve this target, we mobilised several of our large demolition excavators supported by a fleet of smaller processing machines.
All materials generated form the demolition process were transported to a central stockpiling area for recycling and reuse on site. The volume of material for processing required the installation of two large crushers with dust suppression systems which ran continuously.
One of the key environmental constraints on the project was that the pond and water course on the adjacent golf complex remained unaffected, and the client had established a monitoring and testing regime with the neighbouring owners for the duration of the development.
Our team agreed upon specific demolition methods and site water control with the client in this area of the site, to ensure our works did not have an environment impact.
