Overview

Our 1 Liverpool St project for Aviva stands out as one of the most technically challenging and constrained design and build projects in London in recent years.

Relevant Experience

The project involved the complete demolition of the existing structure, which oversailed LU lines, and the installation of polymer piles for the construction of a deep basement structure, all within 2m of LU running tracks. Additionally, we erected 1000T of steel over live London Underground tracks, showcasing the complexity and precision required for this project.
Collaborating closely with Aviva and the wider project team from the early design stage through to delivery, our team undertook an extensive 3rd party approval process and effectively managed numerous significant risks on site. The success of this project can be attributed not only to our engineering expertise but also to meticulous planning and dedicated management.
To ensure the rail remained operational and the project progressed smoothly, a strategic approach was adopted.
Approximately one-third of the work was carried out during engineering hours between 1:30 am and 4:30 am, with piling activities scheduled during the day and steelwork erection at night. Operating on a narrow site with constraints on all sides necessitated meticulous hour-by-hour planning and close monitoring to guarantee success.
This project exemplifies our successful execution of a highly complex and challenging design and build project through effective collaboration, innovative solutions, and meticulous project management.
The project has been shortlist for numerous awards and has one the prestigious Ground Engineer Project of the Year for 2024.
