Location & Overview

Addenbrooke’s Hospital is an internationally renowned teaching hospital and research centre in Cambridge, with strong affiliations to the University of Cambridge. Based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, the hospital is run by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is a designated academic health science centre.

Work, Challenges & Solutions

Asbestos removal was completed in various areas of the hospital, with mostly asbestos insulating boards being removed during the project. These works took place in the live hospital environment whilst staff were actively using areas close to our worksites. An Asbestos Consultant was on site for the duration of the works, carrying out air monitoring, both internally and externally, to the enclosed area.
Working in a busy hospital environment has its unique challenges. Adapting to multiple plans of work changes and worksite alterations was necessary throughout the project in order to fulfil the hospital’s requirements.

Achievements

John F Hunt delivered this project on time and without any downtime caused to the hospital, during the period just at the beginning of COVID-19, before any restrictions had been put in place.
