:: Dolcis House, Oxford Street, London
The Job
Complex. Five separate buildings with 4 different construction techniques. The
site was located on the corner of Oxford Street and New Bond Street with 28
immediate neighbours and 22 party wall awards in place during demolition, therefore
our position was quite delicate and required excellent management to keep so
many people happy.
The works
The number of different types of construction meant using different types of
demolition techniques for each building.
The entire perimeter of the site had to be underpinned before the demolition
reached the basements and sub basements, with extensive temporary steelwork
supports to all of the remaining party walls.
As there was extremely restricted access we used remote controlled machines
to give access to the underpinning gangs, which meant demolishing a section
of the site.
Environment
Environmental impacts were lessened by extensive use of suppression techniques
such as water for dust control, segregation of materials and the use of the
most up to date equipment.
Delivery of Services
The demolition of the various structures was completed within the 30 week programme
and the £1,260,000 contract sum.
